Bail denied for man charged over Hamilton shelter incident

A 27-year-old man faces charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after another man was critically injured near Hamilton's homeless night shelter.

A man has appeared in court after an incident where someone was critically injured near Hamilton's homeless shelter.

Police were called to Anglesea St near Te Whare Korowai Hamilton Christian Night Shelter about 2.45pm on Friday.

A man was found with critical injuries and transported to hospital, and another was taken into custody.

Cordey Clarke, 27, appeared in Hamilton District Court on Monday, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault and threatening to kill.

The charges involve three alleged victims, but only one was previously known to him.

Community Magistrate Brenda Midson denied a request for bail.

Clarke was remanded in custody and without plea, set to reappear on 28 October.
