Gift a koha
No paywall. No locked articles. If our local coverage is worth something to you, a koha keeps it here for everyone.
Choose your koha
At this stage, your koha goes towards making sure this content can keep being provided to readers free of charge.
Each button opens our secure Stripe page in a new tab, where you confirm the amount and pay by card. You don't need an account, and nothing is charged until you press pay.
Prefer to koha direct?
You can transfer your koha straight to our bank account instead of using the card page.

Please put Koha followed by your first and last name in the reference or details field — for example Koha Jane Smith — so we know it's from you. Transfers can take a day to show up and don't come with an automatic receipt — email news@waikatoadvocate.co.nz if you need one.
Why koha matters
The Waikato Advocate is a small, independent newsroom. We don't hide stories behind a subscription — the work only happens when readers and local supporters choose to back it.
A koha is a gift given with no strings attached — the same word we use for the contribution you might leave on a table at a hui. It keeps our reporting free to read for the people who need it most.
Regular koha
Weekly, monthly and annual koha are on the way — they need a separate standing order set up on our payment page. For now, a one-off gift makes an immediate difference. If you'd like to set up a regular koha, email news@waikatoadvocate.co.nz and we'll sort it with you.
Ngā mihi nui — every koha keeps local news in the Waikato. Back to the front page
