The stories that matter to Waikato, for the Waikato.
Waikato Police are appealing for information following a fatal crash south of Ōtorohanga that left one person dead and another requiring hospital treatment.

Police are asking motorists who travelled through the Ōtorohanga area on Sunday afternoon to check their dashcam recordings as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash on State Highway 3.
The single-vehicle crash occurred on Sunday, 1 November, shortly after 1pm, involving a black 2005 Holden Crewman ute.
According to Waikato Police, the vehicle was travelling north along a straight section of SH3 between Ireland Road and Spicer Road when it crossed into the opposite lane before striking a bank.
One person died as a result of the crash, while a second occupant was transported to hospital for treatment.
Police closed the highway while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene, with the road reopening later that evening.
In an update issued on Tuesday morning, Detective Sergeant Harry Hodgson said Police were seeking information from anyone who may have noticed the Holden travelling through the area before the collision.
Investigators are particularly interested in sightings around Fullerton Road, Waitomo Caves Road (State Highway 37) and State Highway 3.
Motorists who have dashcam recordings from the area are being encouraged to review their footage for any potential evidence.
Information about the vehicle’s movements or the way it was being driven could help Police establish what occurred in the period leading up to the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Police have not publicly confirmed what caused the vehicle to leave its intended path.
Detective Sergeant Hodgson confirmed investigators were working with the family affected by the tragedy while enquiries continued.
Police have not released further information about the person who died.
Anyone who witnessed the vehicle travelling in the area, or who has relevant footage, can contact Police on 105, select the option to update an existing report, and quote reference 260111/7295.
Police are encouraging anyone with information, however minor it may appear, to come forward.
The Waikato Advocate extends its condolences to the family and others affected by the crash.
